Industry 4.0 describes the fourth industrial revolution, which integrates manufacturing automation with cloud computing. Industry 4.0 and Smart Automation bring manufacturing into the internet age with real-time feedback about status, efficiency, and potential failures. Industry 4.0 technologies connect cloud-based and mobile data analytics software to smart devices and integrate the cyber and physical worlds. The Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) digitally connects multiple machines throughout a facility to make the manufacturing process more efficient and less wasteful.
With the emergence of Industry 4.0 and the utilization of IIoT within manufacturing, new skilled workers are needed to keep these smart machines actively performing at optimal efficiency. This requires new knowledge of not only manufacturing and automation, but also information technology and cloud-based systems. With IIoT rarely being taught in today’s classrooms, there is a substation skills gap emerging in modern Industry 4.0 automation environments.
Together with our partners, we provide resources for educational institutions to skill-up students and prepare tomorrow’s workforce for Industry 4.0 careers.
